Furzen Wood, Abinger Common, nr Dorking, Surrey,

Dear Sir Arthur,

30th July, 1946.

I have here the trowel with which my brother

laid the foundation-stone of the Hong Kong University.

It is not, as I supposed, merely plated, but, according to

the Valuer for Frobate, solid gold. (no doubt given by

Sir H.N.Mody, donor of the University Building).

I would like to present this trowel to Hong Kong University

through the Colonial Office, but, in correspondence that

passed through my hands last year, there appears to be some

doubt as to the permanence of the Hong Kong University under

the changed conditions of today.

I would be grateful for your advice in the matter,

Yours sincerely,

Sir Arthur Dawe, K.C...,0.B.E.,

Deputy Under-Secretary of State,

Colonial Office.

E.&. Lugara
